Former Ph.D. Student

Short Biography

Mahmoud has got his B.Sc. (2001) and M.Sc. (2007) of information systems in the university of Ain Shams in Cairo, Egypt. In 2002 he has been tenured as a teaching assistant in the same university. After the M.Sc., he worked for ESRI North-East Africa on part-time basis. Since then, he became interested in the spatial and spatio-temporal databases. In 2008 he contacted Prof. Ralf Hartmut Güting to pursue Ph.D. in his group. He received a scholarship from DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) for two years to start this study. Then he was employed as a research member (Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft) until he got his Ph.D. in June 2012.

Mahmoud's thesis was about spatio-temporal pattern queries. He has proposed generic query operators for expressing and matching movement patterns that might occur within individual trajectories or formed by groups of moving objects. This work has been implemented and made available within SECONDO.

Currently Mahmoud has resumed working in the university of Ain Shams, Cairo, Egypt. He teaches the data structures course for the third-semester students.
